Job description
Sports Media, Inc. is looking for detail-oriented and imaginative Level Designers ready to transform innovative concepts into immersive, purpose-driven gameplay environments. In this role, you’ll help design the physical and logical structure of virtual worlds—from high-stakes sports arenas and construction zones to training simulators for CDL, EVOC, and even financial decision-making.
As we expand our footprint in educational games, simulation-based learning, and esports, your levels will serve as the training ground for players learning real-world skills or competing at the national level in our High School and Collegiate Esports Leagues.

What You’ll Do:
Design compelling and balanced levels that teach skills, tell stories, and offer clear challenge-reward flow
Shape the spatial, visual, and interactive layout of game environments across genres (sports, training, simulation, casual)
Build modular and scalable design systems that work across small-footprint simulators and online platforms
Collaborate with gameplay engineers, 3D artists, and narrative writers to integrate mechanics, visual elements, and story arcs
Conduct usability testing and refine design based on feedback and performance data
You’ll Learn To:
Create and apply level design principles that maximize engagement and learning
Work within technical constraints of hardware-based simulators and browser-based gaming
Balance instructional gameplay with entertainment for training-focused and competitive game projects
Contribute to collaborative game pipelines and version-controlled development environments
Develop levels in Unity, Unreal Engine, or proprietary editors with a focus on clarity and flow
Requirements:
Enthusiasm for designing meaningful, accessible, and challenging levels
Understanding of spatial design, player progression, and pacing
Exposure to level design tools such as Unity, Unreal, Tiled, or similar
Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to translate abstract concepts into playable experiences
Availability for remote meetings on:
Mondays @ 9:00 AM MST
Wednesdays @ 10:00 AM MST
Fridays @ 8:00 AM MST
(SkillBridge participants must also attend Thursdays @ 9:00 AM MST)
Bonus Skills (Helpful but not required):
Background in architecture, environmental storytelling, or instructional design
Familiarity with game design documentation and flowcharts
Experience working with asset packs and modular level construction
Exposure to esports, sports training, or career simulation games
